Anyone that says Apple can’t innovate anymore obviously hasn’t spent some quality time with the iPhone X.
According to Time’s annual list of the year’s best inventions, the iPhone X is the only smartphone that makes the cut — but so did the fidget spinner. The magazine calls the iPhone X the world’s most sophisticated smartphone and it’s not hard to see why.

In a new interview with design magazine Wallpaper, Ive discussed the challenges of designing in an age when products can be unfixed and fluid. With the edge-to-edge screen on the iPhone X, Apple’s now creating objects that don’t even look like they were designed, which is exactly what excites Ive.

Jony Ive shared this with a New Yorker TechFest audience Friday as an executive paid to shoulder more worries than most. The chief design officer at Apple doesn’t do many interviews, but he joined The New Yorker editor Dave Remnick onstage for a brief but insightful chat.

Fans will pin most of the blame on chief design officer Jony Ive. After more than two decades of spectacular and unparalleled ideas, it seems Steve Jobs’s best friend is running on empty. Is it time for him to go to make room for fresh blood and new ideas?

Jony Ive will take over from Sir James Dyson as the new Chancellor at London’s Royal College of Art, assuming the post in July 2017.
The five-year, unpaid position doesn’t take Ive away from Apple, although it will require him to take occasional meetings and help govern. And give him a few added trips to his home turf, too!

Jony Ive was interviewed on the BBC’s Today program on BBC Radio 4 today, during which he talked about the importance of design, and Apple’s push to embrace diversity.
“At Apple, we’ve been very clear about how important it is that we have a diverse pool of talent that we can hire from,” Ive said. He also described the way that Silicon Valley’s cultural diversity, comprising people from all over the world, is what makes it special.
Apple may make the surprising move of relocating the Touch ID button to the back of the iPhone this year, but based on renderings of a leaked schematic, it wouldn’t look that bad.
Several renders, based on the supposed iPhone 8 schematic that hit the internet this week, show what the device’s rear shell might look like during production. It’s not a photo of the real iPhone shell, but for now this is as close to the real deal as we’re going to get.

One of the top Apple product designers of the past two decades is parting ways with the company, according to a new report that reveals there’s been a big shake-up on Jony Ive’s team.
Christopher Stringer was the lead designer of the original iPhone and was one of the top two or three designers on Apple’s industrial design team. Now he has apparently decided to jettison from the company right before Apple moves into its new spaceship.

Tim Cook’s kinder, gentler management style is the biggest reason why 2016 was one of the most boring years for Apple in recent memory, according to a former employee of the company.
Steve Jobs was notorious for inciting conflict and competition between top employees, which him a controversial leader but also birthed some of the most iconic tech products ever (iMac, iPod and iPhone). Apple CEO Tim Cook received less pay in 2016 as a result of the company missing revenue and profit goals.
In a new filing with the SEC, Apple revealed that other top executives also got less compensation for 2016 as well. Cook only took home $8.7 million last year after being paid $10.2 million in in 2015.
