iPhone 17: Everything we know about Apple’s upcoming iPhone 17 lineup
The iPhone 17 Air is anticipated to look something like this
The exact design details of the iPhone 17 lineup are a closely guarded secret: Apple never releases any information about upcoming products until they are unveiled at special product launch events.
However, leaks and rumors suggest Apple is gearing up for some of the biggest design changes in the iPhone’s history with its upcoming iPhone 17 lineup, expected to launch in September 2025. As anticipation builds, here’s a detailed overview of what we can expect from this new series.
Expected Models
The iPhone 17 lineup is rumored to consist of four models:
iPhone 17
iPhone 17 Pro
iPhone 17 Pro Max
iPhone 17 Air (or Slim)
Notably, Apple is discontinuing the “Plus” model in favor of the new Air variant, which aims to offer a thinner design without compromising on performance or features.
iPhone 17 colors
Standard iPhone 17: While specific colors for the standard iPhone 17 have not been confirmed, Apple typically offers a range of classic hues. Based on previous releases, we can expect traditional colors like Black, White, and possibly new shades reminiscent of the iPhone 16 lineup.
iPhone 17 Pro:
Leaker Majin Bu has indicated that Apple is considering introducing brighter and more saturated colors for the iPhone 17 Pro models, including:
Teal Titanium
Green Titanium
Dark Green Titanium
These colors would represent a significant shift from Apple’s typical muted tones used in previous Pro models, which have included shades like Black Titanium and Desert Titanium
iPhone 17 Air:
The new Air model is also expected to feature unique color options, potentially including some of the vibrant shades mentioned above. This model may appeal to users looking for a lighter and more colorful aesthetic.
Apple’s color strategy
Historically, Apple has reserved more vivid colors for its non-Pro models, such as the bright pinks and aquamarine options seen in the iPhone 16 series. The introduction of brighter colors in the Pro lineup would mark a notable change in Apple’s design philosophy, suggesting a willingness to cater to a broader audience seeking personalization in their devices
While these color options are still speculative and subject to change as we approach the official launch, the potential inclusion of vibrant hues like Teal and Dark Green could make the iPhone 17 lineup stand out in a crowded market. As always with Apple, official confirmation will come closer to the release date.
Design Innovations
The iPhone 17 series is expected to showcase a sleeker design, with the iPhone 17 Air featuring a significantly thinner profile compared to its predecessors. The standard iPhone 17 may see an increase in display size from 6.1 inches to approximately 6.3 inches, while the Air model could measure around 6.6 inches. The Pro models are anticipated to return to aluminum frames combined with a half-glass, half-aluminum back for enhanced durability.
What will iPhone 17 look like?
iPhone 17 Pro Max renders show it might not look just like its predecessors.
For the first time is several years, the iPhone 17 lineup won’t look like the previous year’s model with a just few tweaks. According to rumors reflected in the new renders, 2025 will bring a substantial redesign.
That’s not the usual iPhone camera hump.iPhone 17 Pro Max back could be part aluminum and part glass.
Display Features
One of the most exciting updates is the potential introduction of ProMotion technology across all models, allowing for a smoother scrolling experience with a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. This feature, previously exclusive to Pro models, will enhance user experience significantly by enabling always-on functionality and better video playback
Camera Upgrades
Apple is expected to enhance its camera technology significantly:
Front Camera: A new 24MP front-facing camera will replace the current 12MP sensor, improving selfie quality and low-light performance.
Rear Cameras: The Pro Max model may feature a triple-camera setup with three 48MP sensors, enhancing mobile photography capabilities, particularly in low-light conditions.
Performance Enhancements
The entire iPhone 17 lineup is rumored to be powered by Apple’s next-generation A19 chip, built on a refined 3-nanometer process, promising improved performance and energy efficiency. The Pro models are expected to come with 12GB of RAM, while the standard and Air versions will have 8GB, catering to both casual users and power users alike.
Connectivity Features
With advancements in connectivity, the iPhone 17 series is set to support Wi-Fi 7, which will provide faster wireless connections and improved data transmission speeds. This enhancement will be particularly beneficial for users engaged in streaming and gaming activities.
Durability Improvements
Apple is reportedly collaborating with Corning to introduce a new anti-reflective coating that is tougher and more scratch-resistant than the existing Ceramic Shield. This upgrade aims to enhance screen durability, addressing concerns about wear and tear over time.
Pricing and Availability
While pricing details remain speculative, it’s likely that Apple will maintain similar price points as the iPhone 16 series. The anticipated starting prices could be around:
iPhone 17: $799
iPhone 17 Pro: $999
iPhone 17 Pro Max: $1,199
iPhone 17 Air: Pricing yet to be determined but expected above the standard models. Early rumors suggested the iPhone 17 Air would be the most expensive in the linuep, but subsequent rumors suggest the iPhone 17 Air’s price will be somewhere in the middle.
When is iPhone 17 release date?
Pre-orders are expected to commence shortly after a September 2025 announcement, with shipping likely starting a week later.
Conclusion
The iPhone 17 lineup promises substantial upgrades across design, performance, camera technology, and connectivity features. As Apple continues its tradition of innovation, the anticipation surrounding these devices highlights their potential impact on the smartphone market in 2025. With significant enhancements expected across all models, Apple fans have much to look forward to later this year.

It looks like Apple could soon take a big leap in wireless charging technology with new MagSafe 50W charging pucks that support the upcoming Qi 2.2 standard. A well-known leaker found regulatory filings that reveal two new MagSafe charger models from the iPhone giant that could enable dramatically faster wireless charging speeds, at least for newer handsets.

Apple’s upcoming iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air will probably receive significant display upgrades, but recent leaks suggest the improvements may not be as comprehensive as initially hoped. While multiple sources have indicated the non-Pro models will finally get high refresh rate screens, a conflicting report now questions whether these will include Apple’s full ProMotion technology.
In other words, base iPhone 17 and super-thin iPhone 17 Air may lack what makes ProMotion what it is.

The standard iPhone 17 model will almost certainly include a larger screen. That’s been rumored before, and a very reliable source for display-related insider information said Thursday that the display is getting a boost above the 6.1-inch screen in the current iPhone 16, moving up to 6.3 inches.
The same source also gave exact display sizes for the other three models in the iPhone 17 series.
Apple is reportedly looking to increase iPhone battery life the smart way. Image: Cult of Mac
Rather than building a bigger battery into the iPhone 17 to extend battery life, Apple reportedly plans to use a smarter power source to achieve the desired result. The company reported is creating an AI system for iOS 19 to “analyze how a person uses their device and make adjustments to conserve energy,” according to a report published Monday.
It could be one of many AI-powered features in the version of the iPhone’s operating system expected to launch this autumn.

Tariffs might force Apple to increase the prices of the iPhone 17 lineup. The company reportedly will highlight the new designs and features of this year’s models to justify the price increase.

Apple supposedly will switch to a two-pronged iPhone release strategy due to intense competition, especially in China. The move will give more media attention to newer models, like the upcoming iPhone Air and foldable iPhone.
In a note Monday, TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicted Apple will launch its second-gen foldable and the “iPhone 19 Slim” with a bigger display in H2 2027.

Most of Apple’s upcoming iPhone 17 lineup may receive a significant memory upgrade that will power the next generation of Apple Intelligence features, supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said Thursday. The iPhone Series 17 RAM boost will even come to the rumored ultra-thin iPhone 17 “Air.”

Apple is not the only company reportedly working on a slim flagship phone for 2025. Samsung is also working on one, and a new leak indicates the company’s iPhone 17 Air rival will have a 6.4mm thick waistline.
Despite the slim profile, Samsung’s super-slim Galaxy reportedly will pack impressive specs, including a 200MP rear camera.

Apple might not make meaningful camera hardware improvements to its Pro iPhones this year. The iPhone 17 Pro will supposedly stick to the same 48MP primary shooter as the current flagship iPhone.
The only notable camera improvement on this year’s iPhone would be the switch to a 48MP sensor for the 5x tetraprism shooter.
