If you have thousands of emails in your inbox, the only way to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.43folders.com\/2006\/03\/13\/philosophy\" data-lasso-id=\"1641751779\">achieve inbox zero<\/a> is by declaring bankruptcy: Select everything and archive it. (Or simply mark them as read, if that\u2019s your style.)<\/p>\n<p>But if you want to\u00a0<em>maintain<\/em> an organized inbox going forward, you need a new strategy. Tap on a category to filter emails; tap on it again to go back to All Mail.<\/p>\n<p>Apple <a href=\"https:\/\/support.apple.com\/guide\/iphone\/use-categories-iphfe4a36baf\/ios\" data-lasso-id=\"1641751782\">describes the four different categories in its support document<\/a> as such:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Primary:<\/strong> \u201cFind personal messages and time-sensitive information.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>Transactions:<\/strong> \u201cKeep track of your confirmations, receipts, and shipping notices.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>Updates:<\/strong> \u201cCatch up on news, newsletters, and social updates.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>Promotions:<\/strong> \u201cBrowse your coupon and sales emails.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The icon will have a dot on it if there\u2019s a new email in that category.<\/p>\n<p>Swipe left or right on the category list to toggle between All Mail and the most recently used category.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"sender\">See all messages from a single sender<\/h3>\n<p>While in the Transactions, Updates or Promotions category, tapping on an email in the list brings up a special view that emphasizes the sender\u2019s name. This view can show you all the emails you&#8217;ve received from that sender (like everything from Amazon.com, your bank or your health care provider).<\/p>\n<p>To see them all, look just below the name of the sender. You&#8217;ll see a summary of the emails they&#8217;ve sent. For instance, in the Transactions category, you will see them listed as <strong>Transactions<\/strong>, <strong>Messages<\/strong>\u00a0and <strong>New<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Tap <strong>Messages<\/strong> at the top of the screen, then tap <strong>Show All Messages<\/strong> to see every email from that sender in one continuous view. Griffin Jones\/Cult of Mac<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>If you find that Apple Mail sorted one of your contacts into the wrong category, you can fix that yourself, in a few different ways:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>While you\u2019re in your inbox, swipe left on an email, tap the <strong>More<\/strong> button (<strong>\u22ef<\/strong>) then tap\u00a0<strong>Categorize Sender<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>While you\u2019re reading an email, tap the <strong>Reply<\/strong> button in the bottom toolbar, then tap <strong>Categorize Sender<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You can manually sort the sender into any of the four categories, or set them back to sort <strong>Automatically<\/strong> on a per-message basis. Pick an option from the panel, then tap <strong>Continue<\/strong> to confirm.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"off\">Turn off mail categories<\/h3>\n<p>If you don\u2019t like Apple\u2019s mail categorization, you can easily disable it. From the <strong>Inbox<\/strong>, tap the <strong>More<\/strong> button (<strong>\u22ef<\/strong>) in the upper right and tap <strong>List View<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>On a Mac, you can find this option in the menu bar.
