Start by opening the <strong>Settings<\/strong> app, then tap on <strong>Wi-Fi<\/strong> and connect to your <strong>usual wireless network<\/strong>. Next, tap the <strong>blue i icon<\/strong> next to that network.<\/p>\n<p>On the resulting window, scroll down to <strong>Configure DNS<\/strong> and tap on it. What\u2019s shown is the one from your ISP that\u2019s probably tracking you. Remove it from the list by tapping the red circle next to it.<\/p>\n<p>Next, tap <strong>Add Server<\/strong> and enter 194.169.169.169. Tap <strong>Save<\/strong> to apply the changes.<\/p>\n<p>Note that you need to make the same change on every Wi-Fi network you connect to, like the ones at your home and office.<\/p>\n<h3>Switch to Surfshark DNS on Mac<\/h3>\n<p>The process for Mac users to move to Surfshark\u2019s free DNS servers is somewhat similar to the iPhone\/iPad one. Just follow these steps:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Click on the <strong>Apple menu<\/strong> \uf8ff and select <strong>System Settings<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Click on <strong>Network<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Choose your <strong>active network connection<\/strong> (e.g., Wi-Fi or Ethernet) and click <strong>Details<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Go to the <strong>DNS tab<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Click the <strong>+ button<\/strong> to add 194.169.169.169 as IPv4 and 2a09:a707:169:: IPv6 addresses.<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>OK<\/strong> and then <strong>Apply<\/strong> to save your changes.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>Change the DNS server on your network router<\/h3>\n<p>Rather than on your computers, you can change the DNS server on your router instead\u2026 assuming it\u2019s your own so you have access to the settings.<\/p>\n<p>You can follow Surfshark\u2018s recommended instructions for changing the router\u2019s DNS server, but the exact process varies between router models:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Open a web browser and enter your router\u2019s IP address (commonly 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1) to access its settings.<\/li>\n<li>Enter the admin username and password (often found on the router or in its manual).<\/li>\n<li>Look for DNS settings under \u201cInternet\u201d or \u201cWAN\u201d settings.<\/li>\n<li>Input 194.169.169.169 as IPv4 and 2a09:a707:169:: as IPv6 addresses.<\/li>\n<li>Save the changes and reboot the router if necessary.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>If these aren\u2018t helpful, do a Google search for your specific router model and \u201cchange DNS server\u201d to find more useful instructions.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Unlike most free DNS servers, a new one from Surfshark won\u2019t constantly track you.
