Griffin Jones\/Cult of Mac<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The design is a relatively slim aluminum ring with a plastic, legally distinct, don\u2019t-call-it-a-PopSocket grip in the middle. It\u2019s only a few millimeters thin \u2014 thinner than the camera bump.<\/p>\n<p>The inner plastic piece flips up similarly to a PopSocket, the name brand phone grip accessory. There are two divots on the back; put a little pressure there with your finger. Little metal origami arms unfold, and the plastic piece pops out as a grip for your hands.<\/p>\n<p>The metal ring looks really nice. It seems like a natural part of your phone when it\u2019s attached. It has a soft texture and rounded edges so that it feels comfortable in the hand. The plastic circle piece on the back looks surprisingly thin, yet feels completely sturdy, with very little bend to it.<\/p>\n<p>It comes in a few colors to match every style of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cultofmac.com\/iphone\" data-lasso-id=\"1641758739\">iPhone<\/a>: stone, lavender, midnight blue, obsidian black, dusty rose and pure silver. Griffin Jones\/Cult of Mac<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>With the grip popped out, you can hold it in two different ways: by wrapping two fingers around the arms (left) or by squeezing one finger through the middle (right). I came to prefer the latter, because it feels more secure; it keeps your phone attached to your hand passively. Although, this will be less comfortable if you have bigger fingers or if you have long nails.<\/p>\n<p>With some practice, you can pop out the grip and thread your finger through the arms entirely one-handed. The pop grip also spins, so you can quickly rotate your phone between portrait and landscape. Griffin Jones\/Cult of Mac<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The pop grip has another trick up its sleeve. A notch in the back of the ring lets you fashion the grip into a stand. You can set it up at an angle on a table or kitchen counter, for playing a YouTube video or reading a recipe.<\/p>\n<p>The angle doesn\u2019t always work out when I try to prop my phone up vertically. It\u2019s a little precarious. It works at <em>just<\/em> the right angle, but any bump will knock it over. This will vary based on the size of phone you have, how thick your phone case is, or if you use your phone naked.<\/p>\n<p>Horizontally, it\u2019s flawless. You can prop it up at two different angles, roughly 35\u00b0 or 55\u00b0. It has its own magnets that strengthen the grip; if you align it well on the back of your phone, it\u2019ll charge using any MagSafe stand or battery pack.<\/p>\n<p>You can stick a MagSafe wallet on it, too. The extra grip strength makes sure it won\u2019t fall off as easily. Although unfortunately, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cultofmac.com\/reviews\/apple-leather-wallet-with-magsafe-review-find-my-iphone\" data-lasso-id=\"1641758746\">(limited) Find My capability<\/a> doesn\u2019t work through the Snap Grip.<\/p>\n<p>If there\u2019s a downside, it\u2019s that in my opinion, the magnets are a little <em>too<\/em> strong. It\u2019s intended to allow you to stick your phone to anything, like a fridge or a piece of workout equipment. But that makes it much stronger than your standard MagSafe-certified accessory.<\/p>\n<p>The first time you put it on a MagSafe stand, it feels like it\u2019s glued on. It feels like it takes roughly three times as much force to pull it off. You learn to take your phone off the charger by twisting it off from the edge rather than pulling it straight.<\/p>\n<p>If you have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cultofmac.com\/reviews\/iphone-16e-review\" data-lasso-id=\"1641758747\">an iPhone 16e<\/a>, which doesn\u2019t support Apple MagSafe but does have regular Qi charging, this product is essential. But it isn\u2019t permanently attached; if you want a different phone case, you can unstick and reapply it if you want. Just take a flathead screwdriver or butter knife under the edge, and it\u2019ll pop off.<\/p>\n<p>You just need to run it under a little water, and let it completely dry; it should be sticky enough to put back on again. I tested this myself. I initially had it on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cultofmac.com\/reviews\/iphone-16-pro-review\" data-lasso-id=\"1641758749\">my iPhone 16 Pro<\/a>, moved it over to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cultofmac.com\/reviews\/iphone-16e-review\" data-lasso-id=\"1641758750\">iPhone 16e when I reviewed that<\/a>, put it back in the box for a little bit, and recently put it back on my 16 Pro with little trouble. At first, it didn\u2019t spin as smoothly as it used to, but that came back over time.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve always recommended buying a new case for people with new iPhone <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Fear_of_missing_out\" data-lasso-id=\"1641758517\">FOMO<\/a>, because it\u2019s a cheaper way to feel like you\u2019ve got something new. So it\u2019s nice you don\u2019t have to throw out your Snap Grip if you need to transfer it.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"conclusion\">Conclusion<\/h3>\n<p>Compared to the official PopSocket, I\u2019ll concede that the design of the Snap Grip Luxe isn\u2019t as fun. But it\u2019s far more practical \u2014 it\u2019s grippable in more different ways, it\u2019s far slimmer and it\u2019s far more compatible with MagSafe accessories.
